QUANDO MI VIDI NON C’ERO

The solo is called Quando mi vidi non c'ero, after the title of a work by Italian visual artist Vincenzo Agnetti. Agnetti's oxymoron alludes to a conflict with identity, which only appears by coming into contact with its absence. The performance consists of a score that alternates vocal breath and stifled cry, in an almost imperceptible alternation of textures. The minimalist stage action sees the performer blindfold herself in order to temporarily erase her humanity, and open the field to a vocal expression more akin to a landscape or an internal state. The centre of the work is the paradox between the vocal solo, where one's own presence and identity are the absolute centre of attention, and the sound breath as annihilation of self.
